Experts in Criminal Law

Here at Stonewood Lawyers, we deal with all aspects of Criminal Law from murder to serious fraud and motoring offences. We will advise and represent your interests throughout the legal process, at all stages, from initial police station detention to trial and, if appropriate, appeal. If you are charged or suspected of a crime, choosing the right criminal defence firm is the most important decision you will make. Our criminal defence solicitors are experienced in handling a wide range of cases, including assault, actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, youth offenders, fraud, theft, drug offences, motoring offences, murder, manslaughter, public order offences and much more. We will work with you to build your case and at every stage of your defence we will be pushing forward for the best possible outcome for you.

Road Traffic Offences

We deal with all Road Traffic offences across England and Wales, providing advice and representation on all motoring offences, ranging from speeding, drink drive/driving whilst unfit through drink/drugs, risk of the loss of licence under the “totting up” system to driving without insurance and dangerous driving amongst a whole string of other offences.

The risk of losing your driving licence can be a terrifying ordeal. A large amount of road traffic offences carry discretionary disqualification. This means that the courts have the discretion to impose a period of disqualification. However, with a well presented case, it may be possible to avoid a disqualification.

In other cases, the courts are required by law to impose a minimum period of disqualification. In such cases of mandatory disqualification, it may be possible to argue special reasons or exceptional hardship and successfully avoid disqualification altogether or obtain a reduced period of disqualification as well as reduced penalty points. We will do all we can to help you keep your licence.

We offer a competitive FIXED FEE for representation as legal aid is usually unattainable for most road traffic offences. So please contact us for a no obligation quotation.

We offer representation to individuals as well as corporations

24 Hour Service

We operate a 24-hour service 365 days a year and always have a solicitor on call to provide advice and assistance and to attend at the police station. We are only a call away!

Leasehold Enfranchisement

Your lease is a depreciating asset; the shorter it gets the less value it has. Subject to certain conditions you may have the right to extend your lease. You no longer need to actually live in the property to exercise these rights. As a group of qualifying leaseholders you may also exercise your right to buy the block from the freeholder, again you do not necessarily need to live in the block to organise this. It will also be cheaper for you to extend your lease or buy the freehold if you still have in excess of 80 years left unexpired on your lease.

The Right to Manage is a “no fault” right to take over the management of your property, subject to certain conditions being fulfilled. It may be the solution if your property is being poorly managed and you are unable or unwilling to purchase the freehold.

We are able to offer advice and assistance on lease hold enfranchisement, lease extensions and in relation to all of the matters above and would be happy to arrange a visit to your block to discuss the matter with the leaseholders or resident’s association. If you are yet to set up a residents association we can also assist you with this .

Wills and Probate

Your Will is an exceptionally important document as it governs the devolution of your estate on your death. Without a Will, your estate will pass under the intestacy laws which may ultimately end up with your estate passing into the hands of family members whom you may not otherwise want to inherit your estate.

A Will can be as simple or as complicated as you like and our team has a breadth of experience in drafting Wills, taking into account each client's circumstances, whether that includes family trusts, second marriages, assets overseas and family disputes.

Licensing

Any business that operates in the entertainment or leisure industry needs to ensure it has the correct licences in place. Any business owner will be aware of the potential consequences and costs of errors during the licensing application process e.g. opening premises late or being forced to close while licences are sorted out. Our firm can assist you with all of your licensing requirements, from routine to more complex matters. We handle licensing applications, objections and appeals for a range of clients.

Our lawyers can help with:

  • Personal licences

  • Premises licences

  • Club Premise Certificates

We can advise you on all aspects of licensing from the initial stages of making an application to ongoing operational issues.
